16. March - in like a Lion .. (Hey we have a few here)
John Palmer 23:01 Wed Mar 1/23 23 lines

Just turned 60 in December and I don't know where
the hell the last 20-30 years went. I can't beleive
its already March, but here it is.

I wanted to do some winter stuff this year but
lazy me didn't move quick enough for the calendar.

So March. The 1st is "meteorological spring". Real
spring comes on the 20th.

The big celebration this month is the green celebration
of St. Paddies Day. Irish Whiskey (and anything else
that is alchoholic - dyed green of course).

So will you make it a point to eat corned beef and
cabbage at least once? How drunk will you get on the
17th (lets see - its a FRIDAY this year - a rare
time that it doesn't interfere with the work week (or
vice versa).

Planning for anything spring-like? I'll be decorating
my condo with green stuff, mini-lights, celtic themes
etc. I may get a bottle of Jameson's as well.

I closed the January and Feb discussions. Use
this one while the Month of Green lasts. Also
no drunk-posting :-)))

A bit about my Irish Persona:

Siobhan was born Medhbh O'Roarke in Connacht in Ireland in about
1050; since the Normans Conquested in 1066 she was eventually
re-baptised into Norman Catholicism, given a good Norman-Celticized
Christian name. Thought she was considered a spinster when she was
not married by age 19, eventually she found a second son of a Good
Norman Family (Argawald Woodwulf) to wed. Being landless, the
squire to whom she was married took service in Vienna and took
Siobhan with him, a common thing to do.

About 1075 her lord took service with Robert Guiscard to conquer
Southern Italy, leaving Siobhan and their child in Vienna. (Many
wives, widows, and women of those who went to fight in the crusades
ended up left behind when this particular Crusade began, leaving an
economic pocket of uncertainty for the women left unsupported.)

A pestilential fever took the lives of the Jarl and Jarla who had
sheltered her when he departed; their son, who inherited, was not
inclined to support two more mouths. Siobhan took service with a
prosperous innkeeper; as she was literate, skilled in accounts, and
well acquainted with feeding and housing vast numbers of people on
a moment's notice, she soon was virtually running the inn.

When the innkeeper died, two or three years later, Siobhan bought
the inn from his widow, whom she pensioned off and allowed to stay
at the inn for local color. Her Norman lord never reappeared;
Siobhan assumed he either died or found a nice Tuscan girl and
settled down. A short time later Syr Aldric Northmark, a Scoti who
immigrated before the i-Viking blight, and an elder son with
estates of his own, paid court to her. They spent 15 years together
before going their separate ways.

Siobhan took her settlement from him and moved to live near Rosslyn
in Scotland.

March is a nice month to start thinking about
that bathroom remod. So, the paste took off the
soap scum from the tiles and tub, and you can
get the mildew off the grout with a tootbrush.
Yah - the tub is fine, a little new caulking
and some brushed nickel finishes.

But, you need new tile, new vanities and those
medicine cabs have to go. Slap on a fresh coatt
of paint and you're in business.

I *MAY* be calling you. Will be search for all
options, starting with LuxeHome in the Mdse.
Mart....

Spent many a St. Patrick's Day here at The Ivanhoe Cafe in
Hamtramck. Not Irish, but we could give themm a run for their money
on the drinking front. They have the best perch in the world (just
to show you that I don't just eat Chaddar Milts).

The Ivanhoe Cafe, Detroit, is home to the world famous Polish Yacht
Club, Just outside the border of beautiful Hamtramck, Michigan! A
great place to meet for lunch, dinner or drinks.

St. Patricks day around Selma can be hazerdous
to your health.

We have a mixture of about 65% Hispanics (mostly
undocumented, here illegally) and the children
of the Oklahoma Diaspora.

Needless to say, the income level isn't very
high and no one needs an excuse to drink heavily
to drown out life's challenges around here, but
they seem to go over the top on March 17th.

Just stay off the road for two days. Get enough
provisions to survive about 3-4 days. There
are more spectacular wrecks and wild parties during
this time than I have ever seen, even during my
undergraduate days at Stanford.

16/7. Joanne Stenquist 12:47 Thu Mar 2/23 3 lines

I don't drink. Never needed to because my
normal state is the same as if I drank a
bottle of vodka, so I get to save money.

16/8. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldJTrump) 09:49 Mon Mar 6/23 2 lines

Poor you. Sounds like my brother who died from
drinking. That's why I never touch the stuff.

Dovreste provare tutti Strega - un po' dolce, ma
ha sentori di liquirizia

16/10. John Palmer 20:49 Wed Mar 8/23 1 line

Piace Strega!

I just got ready for St. Pats - couldn't decide if
I wanted a bottle of Jameson's or Bushmill's so I
got one of each... :-)))

16/13. Aye AAAAye 15:41 Sat Mar 11/23 3 lines

Are you going to drink it all next weekend? If
its spread out over three days, thats kind of
average, many have done much better. :->

16/14. John Palmer 19:43 Sat Mar 11/23 3 lines

Some now, some later. Can't drink it all in
one weekend (or even 5 or 6) - getting too
old for that.

16/15. Tomas Nemecke-Baxter 23:03 Sun Mar 12/23 4 lines

Oh all of you lite weights! Let me show you real
mans drink - Slivovitz - Slovak plumb brandy - you
can double it as a paint remover - Thats what make
Slovak boys into Slovak Men !!!!

16/16. Trevor and Sinclair 07:52 Wed Mar 15/23 7 lines

It was already crazy at the Cell Block last
week at Addison and Halsted. Wait until
Friday/Saturday. So many nice boys in leather
pairing off and doing so many fun things. Problem
is that you won't even be able to get within
a block of that place on Friday (not just
night, but starting at noon or 1pm).

16/17. Lucky Larry 10:16 Mon Mar 20/23 6 lines

Bellagio hosted a huge St. Paddy's dinner for all
of us regulars with 20oz dry aged steaks. Lots of
Irish whiskey and anything else you would want.

Hope everyone else had a nice day / night / early
morning and without too many hangovers...

16/18. John Palmer 10:22 Mon Mar 20/23 22 lines

I had a date with a bottle of Bushmill's. Was so-so.
Next day wasn't too bad - just have to stay hydrated.

So, today is the first day of Spring - none of this
book-keeping bs called "meteorlogical spring". According
to the Farmer's Almanac, it starts at 5:24pm Eastern, so
thats 4:24pm in Chicago.

Looks like it will top out in the lower 50's this week
before getting colder again this weekend.

We still have had almost no sticking snow downtown this
year - the biggest one was that mini polar vortex right
before Xmas - on Dec 22 I think. I was worried that it
would cause my flight to Austin to be cancelled, but it
was fine.

Chicago has some strange force field that pushes nasty
thunderstorms and big snows either to the north of us
in Wisconsin or to the south suburbs and Northwest
Indiana. Doesn't always work, but so far its held this
winter. Knock on wood - because we could still get nailed.

16/19. Tod Levitan 15:02 Tue Mar 21/23 1 line

Jack and Diet Vernors - don't need anything else.

16/20. Elizabeth Lane 17:59 Tue Mar 21/23 5 lines

Sapcicles - those shards of frozen sap that hang from broken branches
of sugar maples, red maples, sweet birches, black walnuts, box elders
and butternuts seem made for consumption for kids and kids-at-heart.
If you concentrate, you can taste the coming spring.

16/21. Tod Levitan 19:27 Tue Mar 21/23 2 lines

Welcome to MTS Ms. Lane! Say "hi" to Uncle Felix and
Macushla.

16/22. Lion Kitty 00:23 Wed Mar 22/23 2 lines

I remember Macushla - probably 1k lbs of meat
there....

16/23. John Palmer 00:26 Wed Mar 22/23 4 lines

You need Macushla's boyfriend - a big 2k bull
with some serious roasts on his ass. If I lived in
a home with a separate freezer, I'd order one of
those steers butchered up into the parts.

16/24. Tod Levitan 00:38 Wed Mar 22/23 1 line

I'm thinking of beef short ribs now (mmmm...)

16/25. John Palmer 00:40 Wed Mar 22/23 2 lines

With that real good dark gravy (at least when
they're done right...)

16/26. John Palmer 14:46 Sun Mar 26/23 17 lines

So, OK - St. Paddies is done, the REAL first
day of Spring is here (none of the bs weatherman
version). What are you guys doing in the last
week of March - last day is Friday.

I'll be doing the painful job of seeing how
much I need to fork over to the IRS and state. I
do my taxes in stages - I get a thumbnail of how
much I will owe. Then, I fill out the schedules
and carry the numbers onto the main 1040 form.

I'm not sending them till the very last moment (Fri
Apr 14th).

Anyways, as this is a month-item, it will probably be
closed at the end of March, so give your farewell
to March before its too late.

16/27. Siobhan Medbhb O'Roarke 15:26 Sun Mar 26/23 20 lines

Let me extend my welcome to Elizabeth Lane.
I look forward to your wise home suggestions.

Yes - I will start an April item when we finally
finish this month. If I don't get to it till
later, someone feel free to create the April item,
but please wait till April 1st.

Hmm, not sure I have a lot scheduled for this
week involving March-style stuff. My Mom's b'day
is March 28th (Tues), so there is that. Payday
is Friday (yaey) but that happens every month.

Usually, I can start seeing some buds getting
swollen on the trees, waiting to burst forth, but
not so far this year.

Sometimes you can even see the tulip leafs peek
out from the soil, but it hasn't been quite that
warm yet.

16/28. Paul O'Leary 15:46 Sun Mar 26/23 18 lines

Jeese - sounds like we need an AA item in April
to assist all of the drinkers on the March Item :-)

I too am amazed at how fast things go compared
to when I was young. I think you need to slow down
and meditate on where you are in life.

I like to practice what I call awake seasonality.
That means paying attention to the changing of the
seasons, the holidays and such. This seeme to get
me to slow down and things don't seem to move
so fast.

March - lets see: A transition month from Winter to
Spring. I like to see snow this month, but I also
like to see the signs of the transition. I don't see
the tulip shoots yet, but I also see the buds getting
larger on the trees, getting ready to burst open.

16/29. Jifma . 23:24 Sun Mar 26/23 6 lines

Almost 2/3rds along my way. I think we are
getting used to '2 - 0 - 2 - 3'.

One segment (and 5 days to go).

Onward!

16/30. John Palmer 23:46 Sun Mar 26/23 5 lines

We need the last segment for sure, so I can get
taxes done and not have any of the old year left.

You know how your successor gets an attitude about
anything related to "then" or "later"....

16/31. Jifma . 08:22 Mon Mar 27/23 3 lines

I know, he's so sensitive about that. Lets get
the old stuff wrapped up so he doesn't get
triggered.

16/32. Tomas Nemecke-Baxter 07:01 Thu Mar 30/23 1 line

April is almost arrived. Will Shioban make a new item?

16/33. Siobhan Medbhb O'Roarke 07:28 Thu Mar 30/23 3 lines

Indeed I will, Tomas. I'll post a new item on Saturday
and freeze this one. I like the idea of having monthly
items. We did something like that in HBK5:Muse.

16/34. Louis Sequin 22:28 Thu Mar 30/23 3 lines

Hopefully with the additional sunlight, my
Poinsettia's will get better. One is sick and
probably done for, but its 9 1/4 years old

16/35. Siobhan Medbhb O'Roarke 01:16 Sat Apr 1/23 6 lines

OK - So March is out like a Lion - see all of
the nasty tornados today - not nice. Best left
behind for posterity - Item is now closed - See new
April item. See you next year, March, old Baily
Building and Load buddy, old pal :-) (I know, a
Christmas reference in March...)
